The Traverse City Arts Commission is commissioning a new work of art to be placed in Lay Park in downtown Traverse City in honor of the late DDA Executive Director Bryan Crough. The memorial art will reflect Bryan's life, spirit, and passion for downtown Traverse City. The Arts Commission wants to inspire residents and visitors with a provocative work of art with a sense of movement and dynamism that reflects the active, energetic community leader that Bryan was. We are looking for a thoughtful, interactive centerpiece work that honors Bryan's serious love of art, something beyond a conventional bronze statue. We need a work that is durable and can stand up to the elements of Northern Michigan. It needs to be produced and maintained within our current $50,000 budget, and by our installation deadline of June 13, 2017.

The City of Napa invites artists with experience in creative place making to submit qualifications for the Dwight H. Murray Plaza improvement project. Constructed in 1974, the Plaza is currently an underused civic space in downtown Napa. With the intensification of retail development in the area, the City has initiated plans to redefine and reactivate the Plaza, one of the most visible places in the downtown area and a traditional gathering place for community events.

As part of a visioning process, a series of community meetings were held to help create a plan for the redevelopment of the Plaza. Throughout the process public art was identified as a key element that could enhance and enrich the experience of the Plaza for residents and visitors. It is the City’s intent to select one artist or artist team to conceptualize and produce unique art elements that activate the Plaza and serve as visual landmarks for this newly designed civic space.
