Investigations into “Scientific Illustration”. It was Albert Einstein who said you cannot understand something until you can picture it and art has been the standard bearer of this truth since humans first left images painted upon cave walls.

The act of documenting our investigations and findings as image has been intrinsically tied to study long before we ever called it science, from mapping the movements of the sun to meticulously detailed copies of herbs and flowers, we have always used image as a carrier of insight, as a map how we understand our world, to explain what we see, and to see what we cannot.

“Raw” calls for any work which begs the question what is public vs. what is private, work that is auto-biographical in nature, work which functions as confessional, revelatory, cathartic. We are seeking a divulgence, unbosoming, or unburdening; that which you have always wanted to say, to share, to let go.

MOFSA, the Marianne Oberg Foundation for Spiritual Art (www.mofsa.org) is a new nonprofit organization located in Charlotte, NC, whose mission is to inspire, encourage and support the creation of spiritual art. We pursue our educational mission through grants to artists and exhibits of spiritual art.

We are delighted to announce our first grant program for artists who see the world from a spiritual perspective and who seek to express their view of the transcendent in their artwork. The recipient should already have some body of work in this direction and a desire to create more. The recipient will be awarded a $10,000 grant to be presented at the opening of an exhibit of Spiritual Art at the Awaken Gallery in Mount Holly, NC in September, 2018. The grant recipient will create a new work to be unveiled at the exhibit.
